UN seeks $8bn to limit Syrian suffering

UN is asking for more than $8bn to help at least 18 million people who have been affected by raging war.

A donor conference in Berlin brought together top UN officials and ambassadors from countries neighbouring Syria to discuss a new humanitarian appeal for the wartorn country.

The UN plans to launch a new approach to coordinate aid into Syria and neighbouring countries, bringing together emergency and development aid – a move it hopes will make donors more willing to contribute. It requires more than $8bn in funding.
